Do you usually wear tighty whities, boxers,
or run commando? Running in cotton can
wreak major havoc on your parts for several reasons. Cotton is not a moisture wicking material. It holds the sweat in and doesn’t allow it to
evaporate. That moisture can cause
chafing. The cotton materials will also
get heavier as it retains more sweat.
Another issue with cotton is that it does not allow you to properly regulate
your body temperature. It can lead to
overheating in the summer and freezing in the winter.
I ran across a company from the UK
called Runderwear. They make sports specific underwear that was
designed to help you perform your best while staying comfortable. There are several reasons why Runderwear clothes are superior to
normal cotton underwear.
Runderwear
uses technical fabrics to wick moisture away, keeping you dry and feeling
good. There are micro-perforations to
help control air-flow, which will make you more comfortable in the long run, or
on a long run… They use flatlock edging
to eliminate the risk of chafing and their products are made with a 360 degree
seamless construction.
The material that they use is 92%
Polyamide and 8% Elastane. It is a
non-fading, color retaining fabric so it will look great for quite a
while. I tested the brief
and boxer
versions of the Runderwear. They both felt extremely comfortable, didn’t
move around, and didn’t cause any blisters.
I have been using compression shorts
from Champion, Under Armour, and Nike for years, and they never felt as good or
provided the same level of support as the Runderwear
products. With some compression shorts,
the waistband cuts into your hips or causes chaffing, but not with Runderwear. I also really like that there is no tag to
irritate the small of your back. While I
didn’t review the women’s Runderwear,
I am sure it performs just as good as the men’s gear. They also sell socks and headwear. I was paying over $25 for my compression
shorts that didn’t perform as well as the Runderwear.

Hey Brian, thanks for reviewing these. I'm not sure which style to get, but am leaning toward the briefs as, in theory, it should be harder to overheat in these. Did you find that the leg seam area gave you any friction? Thanks.

I didn't find any friction issues with the seams at all and had no overheating issues with either type. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
