Nathan Sports
is sold in over 45 different countries and was on Inc.’s 500/5000 List of
Fastest Growing Companies in 2013. They
make hydration, visibility, and performance gear using industry leading
materials. If you go to your local
running store, there will most likely be Nathan
products there.
Nathan
Sports makes some of my favorite visibility
products to keep me safe on my 4:00 AM runs. I reviewed the Halo Fire Headlamp in June of
2016 (click
here for my review). It’s still one
of my favorite headlamps and I keep going back to it run after run. Nathan
came out with some awesome visibility products in the last year (or so) that
are worth taking a look at as well.
Zephyr
Fire 300 Hand Torch LED Light
I am not a huge fan of holding things
in my hands when I run. Having to
constantly grip a bottle or anything else for that matter tends to make my
hands sore or cause cramping. This
powerful little flashlight is rechargeable via a USB cable and provides up to 6
hours of light per charge.
It is designed with a 24-degree
downward angle so it’s easier to shine on the ground in front of you without having
to hold your hand/wrist in a funky position. The light provides 300 lumens max with
three different light levels and a strobe feature. There’s also a flashing red LED light in the
back to provide visibility from behind. It’s
easy to operate, you simply hold down the power button for 2-3 seconds to turn
it on. Single pushes of the power button
will cycle through the various light settings.
Another cool feature is the emergency
siren. You simple push the button behind
the power button and the Zephyr
Fire 300 will start producing a loud beeping sound. The button is easy to use but will not go off
by accident.
The Zephyr
Fire 300 also has a comfortable hand strap that is easy to adjust and will
allow you to put your wrist through the strap and let go. There is no need to grab the light and it
works in either hand. It’s a great way
to have a handheld light without worrying about hand cramping.
It really is a great light with a
decent battery light. I found that the
intensity of the light was superb and the strobe feature really made oncoming
traffic aware that I was running in the bike lane. It saved my life on more than one
occasion. You can pick up your Zephyr
Fire 300 at the Nathan Sports website for $59.99,
at your local running store, or online.
Pros:
Bright light (300 lumens)
Comfortable hand strap – no holding
Great battery life – up to 6 hours
Waterproof
Decent price at $59.99
Neutron
Fire Runner’s Headlamp
Another great solution from Nathan
Sports is the Neutron Fire
Runner’s Headlamp. It is one of Nathan Sports’
top sellers probably because it comes in 5 different colors, has a long battery
life, and retails for a decent price, but more on that in a little.
The Neutron Fire
provides 115 lumens max through 5 different lighting modes. There is a main white LED that produces the
115 lumen beam. There are two side LED’s
that can change colors to red, green, or blue.
The five lighting modes are low, medium, high, sprint (super-high), and
strobe.
The Neutron Fire
runs on two AAA batteries, which are replaceable and can last over 30 hours
before having to change them. The whole
unit is IPX4 Water/Weather Resistant so you can take this headlamp out in even
the most extreme conditions.
The headlamp has a comfortable,
adjustable band that goes around your head and the headlamp angle can be
adjusted depending on where you want the beam.
This is a simple, solid headlamp that
is perfect from anything to running at night on your local roads to night trail
runs. It’s even great for ultra-marathons
because of the long batter life and the fact that you can change the batteries
in the middle of your run. You can pick
up your Neutron
Fire at the Nathan Sports website for $34.99,
at your local running store, or online.
Pros:
Long battery life (30+ hours)
Comfortable head strap
5 lighting modes (from 25 lumens-115
lumens)
Colorful LED lights for added visibility
Water/weather resistant
Great price at $34.99
LUX
Strobe RX LED Clip Light
The LUX Strobe RX
LED Clip Light is a
simple clip-on light that has three LED lights, is rechargeable, and weather
resistant. It charges via USB cable in a
very short amount of time and can last over 10 hours on a single charge.
There are 5 different lighting modes,
Steady-On (5 + hours), Strobe (8+ hours), Pulse (10+ hours), Burst (10+ hours),
and RUN (10+ hours). It also can change
colors, so you can easily change between blue, red, and green but it won’t do
all of the colors at the same time.
The three LED lights put out a max
output of 8 lumens, which might not seem like much, but trust me, it is quite
bright. Like the other two visibility
products I reviewed, it is IPX4 water/weather resistant.
There really isn’t much more to say
other than the fact that it is a great product at a decent price point. I am a huge advocate of running safely, especially
when it is dark out. The LUX Strobe RX
LED Clip Light is great product that could mean the difference between if a
car sees you or not. I’m a huge advocate
for always watching what oncoming cars are doing, but making sure they see you
is a big deal. This can definitely
help. You can pick up your LUX Strobe RX
LED Clip Light at the Nathan Sports website for $29.99,
at your local running store, or online.
Pros:
5 different lighting modes with 3
different colored LED’s
Rechargeable Li-ion polymer battery
lasts up to 10+ hours
Clips onto your hydration vest, belt,
or shorts.
Great price at $29.99

Nathan states that “No matter how hard you push our gear, we
guarantee it.” This does not include
normal wear and tear, but you are covered from any manufacture defects for as
long as you own the product. That sounds
great to me. I definitely push my gear
to the limits at times and it is great to have a company that stands behind
their products. I emailed Nathan a while
back about a leaky bottle and they shipped one out to me at no charge, no
questions asked. Now that’s great
service!
The Zephyr
Fire 300, Neutron Fire, and LUX Strobe RX
LED Clip Light are awesome products that can help be more visible and light
your way. Nathan Sports continues to impress
me with the quality of their products and the features you get for the price. Head over to your local running store and check them
out or visit the Nathan Sports
website.
