BEET’UMS Beet Chew Review

Core 4 Nutrition is a provider of nutritional supplements and at-home assessment services.  The products that Core 4 Nutrition provides are 100% food based, not filled with chemicals that you cannot pronounce. Why is that important, you might ask?  With food based ingredients, your body can recognize and utilize the nutrients much easier.  It is much harder to process artificial or chemical ingredients than natural ones.  Your body performs at its best when it has the optimal levels of nutrients and the people at Core 4 Nutrition have products to find that balance so you can perform at your best.

Some of the benefits from using Core 4 Nutrition products are easily noticed, like having more energy.  The most important benefits are the ones that you probably won’t notice though.  These include restoring and regenerating your body beginning at the cellular level.

I reviewed one of these products a while back, their Pure Clean Powder (click here for my review).  It is 100% natural beet juice powder.  Scientific research has shown that eating nitrate-rich foods on a regular basis will not only optimize your nitric oxide levels, but will increase your athletic performance.  Some people use Nitric Oxide boosters, but like I stated earlier, many of these powders are full of chemicals and can have some rather nasty side effects.  There was a product called SuperPump that we used to call “SuperDump.”  You can guess why (sorry for the visual).

I did feel the difference when I took Pure Clean Powder in the past.  They just released a new product called BEET’UMS.   One of my favorite things to do with the Pure Clean Powder was to make lozenges with coconut oil, honey, and the beet powder.  I would just suck on them and it was a great way to take the beets without that earthy taste.  The lozenges were a little on the sweet side though.

BEET’UMS take the idea of a lozenge to the next level.  They are bite sized, individually packaged, and taste great.  BEET’UMS are paleo, vegan, and diabetic friendly because they are made from an organic, cocoa butter base and flavored with a low-glycemic, plant based sweetener as well as real-fruit extracts.  Each BEET’UMS chew contains only four carbs.    Here is the full list of ingredients.

Ingredients: Fermented Beet Juice Powder (5% nitrates) , PlantSWEETt® (Soluble Plant Fiber, Organic Coconut Nectar, Organic Reb-A Stevia), Erythritol, Cocoa Butter, Cacao Powder, Pomegranate Juice Powder, Natural Flavors, CocoaNOURSIH®(Organic Raw Cocoa Powder, Organic Cacao Extract (15% Polyphenols), Organic Cinnamon Extract, Coffee Fruit Extract, Organic Green Tea Extract, Theobromine Extract, Blue Green Algae Extract, Red Rooibos Tea Extract, Curcumin Extract, Organic Resveratrol Extract 98%, New Zealand Pine Bark Extract)

I have been taking two BEET’UMS per day, one before my workout and one after.  They do not cause any GI distress (which I may have a little sensitivity with) so it is safe to take prior to working out.  There are 30 servings (chews per bag) so if you take 2 per day, it would last 15 days.  While I take 2 per day, you could probably take one a day and still see decent results.  The cost is $34 on the Core 4 Nutrition website.  You can also order them on Amazon and if you are a Prime member, you can get free shipping (free one-day shipping if you are ordering over $35 in that Amazon order).

Pros:
Great source of nitrates
The single serve chews are individually wrapped and are easy to take with you
Decent price
No artificial ingredients
Taste great!

I have been extremely pleased with the service and products from Core 4 Nutrition.  The Pure Clean Powder is great, but they really have outdone themselves with the BEET’UMS.  Now you can get your beets in a chew that tastes great.  Gone are the days of having to deal with the earthy taste of beets.  I will continue to use BEET’UMS in my training and they are great to keep in your purse (or backpack, AKA: man purse).  Get a bag today and let me know what you think.  I would love to hear if you felt a difference and how you like the taste.

BUFF® Headband and Cap Review

I have short hair, so covering my head is vital in making sure I don’t fry my scalp.  I have hats, visors, beanies, and headbands.  I reviewed a few BUFF® products in the past (click here for my BUFF® Headwear and Merino BUFF® reviews).

So what makes BUFF® products so cool?  Let’s take a look.  The Original BUFF® headwear started the multifunctional headwear revolution.  You can use them in so many different ways, from a headband, to a beanie, to a balaclava, or even a hair tie.  While the Original BUFF® headwear is awesome, I got to test out the UV Headband and Cap.

The UV Headband stays in place to keep the sweat out of your eyes, even in the most extreme workouts.  The soft and breathable Coolmax® fabric does and excellent job at wicking the sweat away and the Polygiene® Active Odor Control keeps it smelling great workout after workout.  The headband will fit most adults and dries quickly.  It is super light too at 0.5 ounces. It blocks an amazing 95% of UV rays to keep your skin safe.

This is my go to piece of headwear right now when I am running in low light situations.  I never feel too warm like I can in some hats and caps.  I got to test the UV Headband Anton, which is part of the Anton Krupicka signature series.  He is one amazing ultra-runner.  You can get any of the UV Headbands for $14.99 on the BUFF® website.

They also have an awesome hat that you can stuff in a pocket when you are not using it. They have the Pack Run Cap in four different colors or the one that I tested which is the Cap Pro Anton which has the same design as the UV Headband Anton, but is reversible and is black on the other side.  The blue side features a design of “The Flatirons” where Anton trains on a regular basis.  It looks really cool.

The Cap Pro Anton is made of Fastwick Extra Plus Fabric with Silberplus® Odor Control.  It is wind resistant, dries quickly, and provides both UV and thermal protection while keeping your head dry.  The bill on the Cap Pro Anton is smaller than most bills (the other caps have a larger bill) and provides your forehead and eyes a little shade.  Anton likes it because he can flip the bill up when he is on trails and wants to have a better view of the ground.

The Pack Run Cap is $31.99 and the Cap Pro Anton is on sale right now for $20.30 (normally $29.00) on the BUFF® website.  I absolutely love this cap.  It is so comfortable, looks awesome and nothing is better than being able to just toss it in my vest pocket when the sun goes down.  I hate trying to figure out what to do with hats when I am ready to ditch them but my run isn’t over yet.

Pros:
Lightweight
Moisture wicking
One size fits most adults
Anti-odor
UV protection
Great prices

BUFF® has so many different styles and patterns to choose from.  I love both my cap and headband and have started using them on every run.  Protecting yourself from the sun is vital and these pieces of gear are a must in my book.  I am looking forward to testing the UV Arm Sleeves soon.  Get yours and let me know what you think.
