Have you ever done a virtual run? Do you even know what a virtual run is? Don’t worry, I didn’t know until recently.
So what is a virtual run anyway?
It is a race that you can run anywhere at anytime. Most events have a window of time (i.e. 2
weeks) to complete your race. It can be
a training run, during a race, or even on a treadmill. You can break up the race into several runs,
walk the required distance, run by yourself or with friends. It is more about getting out there than
anything else.
People like virtual runs because they allow you to be more flexible with
when you do your race, it keeps you working toward a goal, and they are less
expensive than normal races because there isn’t the overhead cost of putting a
race on. If you successfully complete a
virtual run, you typically get a race medal and sometimes there are even
prizes. There are no age limits and
anyone can participate.
Level Up Virtual Runs is a
company that was started by runners who wanted to create alternative ways for
runners to complete races without getting up at the crack of dawn. The proceeds go help school kids by raising
money for their school uniforms in areas where funding isn’t available for new
school uniforms. They just use the same
uniforms and pass them to the next kids.
What a good cause.
I just did “The Runner Awakens”
virtual and got a cool medal with BB-8 from the new Star Wars movie. It cost $25 with a $1 processing fee. The inside of the medal rotates 360 degrees
too. Just for participating I got a $25
gift certificate to SLS3, which has great
running and triathlon gear.
Their next
virtual is “The
Incredible Virtual Run” and it runs April 15-30th. There is a 5k, 10k, and half marathon
option. It cost $25 + a $1 processing
fee. Here is a mock-up of the 4” medal
you will get. In addition to the medal,
you will also get a $25 gift certificate to SLS3.
Level Up is a great company that is
trying to make a difference for school kids by raising money for their school
uniforms. Why not sign up for one of
their virtuals and do your part. You get
a great medal as well.
