SPI was established in 2007 and makes product that are great for walking, running, hiking, cycling, and more. SPI is short for Small Personal Item Belt. The CEO, Kim Overton, was jogging one day with her keys tucked into her bra. She thought to herself, “There's got to be a better way.” Their products line now includes SPI Belts for both adults and kids, the SPI Band that can go on your wrist or ankle, Messenger bags, water bottle holders, dog leashes and more. SPI products are made in the USA, which is a rarity and I always like buying American products when possible.
The Original SPI Belt
definitely lives up to the hype. The
elastic belt is adjustable and has a buckle, which makes it easy to put
on. I tested the Original SPI Belt
back in November of 2014 and am now testing out the SPI H20
Venture Series Hydration Belt.
The stretchy zippered pouch was able to
easily fit my Galaxy S6 with the case (and should fit an iPhone 6 Plus easily). As promised, the belt and its contents do not
bounce around at all. It was so
comfortable that I didn’t even realize that I had it on during my run. The Original SPI belt
was awesome, but my biggest complaint with it was that the pouch was not
waterproof or sweat proof. The H20 Venture
on the other hand has a WeatherGuard design that will keep your contents somewhat
safe from the elements, and I really put it to the test. The website has a warning that it is not
waterproof, but I used the belt in a torrential downpour for over 2 hours and
my phone was fine, although use it at your own risk.
There are two gel loops, some elastic
and toggles to attach a race bib, and the elastic SPI band is 2” thick to make
the belt more comfortable and stable. There
is reflective trim around the zippered pocket and the buckle works well.
Now to my only issue with the H20 Venture. I took the belt out for a 10 mile run. The water bottles fell about 5 times before I
tightened the belt enough to keep the bottles from popping off. I was able to fix the issue, but was
frustrated at first. This should not be
an issue if you tighten the belt down.
The 2-8 ounce water bottles have a clip and feature a leak-free Jet
Nozzle. You don’t need to pull or push a
valve on the lid, just grab the bottle and squeeze. I really liked this feature.

Cons:

times mid run.

I am a huge fan of SPI.
The Original
SPI Belt was amazing and the H20 Venture
Series Hydration Belt took it to the next level with a waterproof(ish)
large pocket, gel loops, race toggles, and water bottles. The pack didn’t bounce around at all and felt
great. You can pick up your H20 Venture
Series Belt at the SPI website for $44.99
or at a store near you (click here
for locations). No wonder it won the
“Best of Active.com Running” Award!
